Our Cat Bubba From Wetumpka
Our cat Bubba has a bigger social media following than me and I think I am a little jealous. We started an Instagram account for him, Bubba_From_Wetumpka, and he has almost 2,500 followers. People are way more into cute cat photos than the normal food and hiking pics I post on my personal account.

Bubba’s Adoption Story
We adopted Bubba from the Humane Society of Elmore County in Wetumpka, Alabama in February of 2024. He had been surrendered to the animal shelter by his previous family. He was then adopted by another couple who then returned Bubba to the shelter after a week or two. So we are at least his third family. It’s sad to think about any animal being abandoned let alone being abandoned twice but now Bubba is happy with his forever family.

Bubba’s Medical Issues
The first week Bubba was at home with us we noticed that he was sleeping a lot. It’s normal for cats to take a lot of naps but this wasn’t normal. Later that first week we also noticed he might be in pain when he was eating. We were able to get an appointment with our local veterinarian. Bubba had surgery and they removed seven of his teeth. The vet told us that he was already missing several teeth. We also soon discovered that Bubba had some dietary issues and he now only eats special prescription cat food. His previous owners also had him declawed in the front so he is strictly and indoor cat.

What We Know About His Past Life
The volunteers at the shelter told us that Bubba was around four years old when we adopted him. The veterinarians we have taken him to seem to think he might be a little older than that. It’s hard not knowing for sure how old he is or anything about the first few years of his life. I often wonder what his life was like with that first family and if he remembers them. Based on his behavior we are guessing that they may have also had a dog and small children but we will never really know.
What we do know is that Bubba developed some bad behavior around food from his previous owners. He goes crazy whenever we open a can of beans. I’m not sure what (canned dog food?) he thinks he is begging for but he wants it! Bubba is also obsessed over bowls of cereal and yogurt.

Poor Bubba! I’m so glad he’s with you now and getting the care he needs. He’s lucky to have found such a loving and attentive home.

Thank you! I wish more people knew that adult shelter animals make great pets. They can be very loving because I think they know how lucky they are.

Look at that expressive face! What an incredibly cute cat. Our parents have a rescue dog, and she had a lot of health issues when they adopted her too. They also weren’t her first family either. But they love her now and she’s such an important member of the family, and she really seems to know that they rescued her. Rescuing animals is such a wonderful thing!
