    Nanny’s Baked Macaroni and Cheese

My grandmother who lived in Atlanta, Nanny, made the best baked macaroni and cheese. It wasn’t anything fancy. It is a very simple recipe that uses basic ingredients. It’s so yummy because it’s homemade. We had Sunday dinners at Nanny’s house on a regular basis and she often made mac and cheese. The term Sunday dinner can be misleading because it was served at lunch time. In the South when someone is talking about a big meal they often call it dinner regardless of the time it is served. In the early 1900 when my grandmother was raised the main meal of the day would be served midday so farmers…

    Chopped Seitan Salad

I love a good salad! The chopped seitan makes this salad more of a full meal than just a side. Plus it’s a great use for leftover seitan. Waste not want not. We made seitan ribs this past weekend and chopped up the leftovers. The smoky BBQ flavor was amazing on the Chopped Seitan Salad. Yum! If you have a food processor use it to chop the seitan. It shreds it in to fine little piece and the texture is really nice. Don’t have a food processor or don’t want to drag it out? No problem! Just chop it up finely with a knife. You may not get the same…

    Smoked Cabbage

Smoked Cabbage is really easy to cook in a smoker. It really picks up the flavor and just falls apart. We like to smoke ours with jalapeño peppers for an extra little kick of flavor. We fired up the smoker this weekend because it finally stopped raining! So excited! I am sick of the winter rain. I love this mild unseasonably warm weather and had to find any excused to be outside so Sunday we grilled out and spent time cleaning up our yard. Smoked Cabbage is great in the winter it goes well with roasted root veggies. It is a great savory side dish. This is serious comfort food.…
