Vegan Hot Chicken

Ingredients

To fry the seitan you need:

  • 1 batch Cooked Seitan cut into small pieces
  • 2 cups Plant Based Milk
  • 1/4 cup Vegan Egg Replacer Like Just Egg
  • 1 tbsp Louisiana Hot Sauce
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Peanut Oil for frying

To make the Vegan Hot Chicken Sauce

  • 1/4 cup Plant Based Butter melted
  • 3 tbsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl combine plant based milk, vegan egg replacer, and hot sauce.

  2. Use a separate bowl to mix together flour with salt and pepper.

  3. Dunk your seitan in the vegan egg wash. Then dredge it in the flour to thoroughly coat it.

  4. When your oil is hot you can fry the seitan in batches.  We use a deep cast iron pot to fry in and just use a small test piece to know when the oil is hot. Make sure you flip and fry on both sides. Carefully remove your fried cutlets and set them to cool on a few layers of paper towel.

  5. Meanwhile make the vegan hot chicken sauce by melting plant based butter and combine with all other sauce ingredients. This sauce can then be brushed onto your fried seitan. We served our on slider buns and with dill pickle slices.
