
Peel, core, and slice the apples into roughly 1/4-inch thick slices. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
Place a 10-inch or 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add 4 tablespoons of butter and allow it to melt.
Add the sliced apples to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over the apples. Stir to coat evenly.
Continue cooking for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce becomes thick and glossy.
Remove from heat and serve warm.
