Oven Fried Cauliflower

I love the crunch of fried foods but hate the grease and mess of frying things. Let’s not even start talk about the calories in fried foods. Oven Baking or Air Frying is totally the way to go at home. It’s so much healthier and easier. Way less clean up involved. I rarely fry food at home any more. We used to have an Air Fryer, and I loved it until it broke. That was a sad sad day. Luckily our new oven is also a convection oven. I have tested this recipe for Oven Fried Cauliflower by baking normally and using the convection oven setting (like any air fryer). Both work great but I like using the convection oven setting better. It cooks a little quicker and just makes the cauliflower a little crispier.

Oven Fried Cauliflower with rice and black beans

Our Oven Fried Cauliflower uses a lot of fun spices. I am not afraid to spice things up. The color on the cauliflower is from the turmeric. Turmeric has recently become one of my favorite spices. I am using it more often than not. One of my favorite Turmeric recipes is for our Vegan Seitan Kebabs with Turmeric Sauce. I put that sauce on everything!

This recipe is just for the cauliflower. You can serve it with anything you like. Maybe even just as a snack! We served ours over rice and black beans with fresh chopped cilantro and tomatoes.

Oven Fried Cauliflower

Ingredients

  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Mrs. Dash Southwest Seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350. Convection or regular.

  2. Cut the cauliflower into bite size pieces.

  3. You need three small mixing bowls. Add the almond milk to one bowl. Add the bread crumbs to the second bowl. In the third bowl mix the flour will all the spices.

  4. Dip the cauliflower into the almond milk. Then dip it lightly into the flour mixture. Quickly dip it back into the milk. Then finish by rolling in the bread crumbs to thoroughly coat.  

  5. Place the breaded cauliflower piece on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 

  6. Bake at 350. 40 minutes in traditional ovens. 30 minutes for convection ovens.
