Vegan Comeback Sauce
Mississippi Comeback Sauce is a favorite dipping sauce in the south. I have heard a few origin stories but basically the sauce is so good it will have you coming back for more! It’s a zesty sauce that is often served with fried foods. I see it on a lot of menus served with fried pickles or chicken fingers. As much as I love fried foods (including fried pickles yum!) I love veganizing and making foods healthier. Our Vegan Comeback Sauce isn’t just for fried foods. You can dip anything in it! Including grilled asparagus!
It’s great on burgers and oven baked fries too! We slapped some vegan comeback sauce on these Beyond Meat Burgers. So yummy! Have you tried the Beyond Meat Burgers? They are by far my fav veggie burger but the sauce is amazing on black bean burgers too. You really can serve this sauce with almost anything. I love dipping raw veggies in it. Comeback sauce can be served on black eyed pea cakes, on fritters, or faux crab cakes. It’s a crowd pleaser at our house! This recipe makes about a cup and a half of sauce and it will save in the fridge for a week or so.
Vegan Comeback Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 8oz can tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili power
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1 cup vegan mayo We like Just Mayo
- 1 tsp vegan worcestershire Wizard’s Organic or Annie’s brand
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
-
Start by mixing the first six ingredients together to make a chili sauce. You need 1/2 of chili sauce and this will make a little extra.
-
In another small mixing bowl combine 1/2 of the chili sauce with one cup of vegan mayonnaise. Then add in the vegan worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, hot sauce, salt and pepper.
-
After it is all mixed up give it a taste. You can add in more chili sauce or hot sauce if you like but it is not traditionally a very spicy sauce. It should have a little zing to it but not be overly hot.
