Vacation to Maine

We got back from our trip to Maine late Sunday night and have not had a chance to post anything until now. I wanted to share a few of our vacation pics from the Pine tree state and share some food pics from an amazing restaurant we checked out.

We flew in and out of Portland but most of the week we spend up in Bar Harbor outside of Acadia National Park. One of the best days we had in the park was when we started out with a morning hike around Jordan Pond.

The hike around the lake was a little over three miles. It started out a little foggy that morning but cleared by mid day. When we finished our hike we walked to the restaurant in the park and had lunch. It wasn’t the best meal but they did have veggie options and the view was hard to beat.

One night of the trip we went to eat at a restaurant, The Gothic, in the small coastal town of Belfast. It is one of Matthew Kenney’s plant based restaurants. He is most well know for his work with raw food. If you ever have a chance to visit The Gothic or one of his other restaurants do it.

I love the carrot logo on the sign!

We decided to do the tasting menu so we could try several different item on the menu. We started with a Chilled Beet Soup with lemon foam and pickled mustard seeds. This was Erin’s favorite thing we tried.

Next was a Kale Salad. The base was a nut puree and it had a smoked pepper dressing.

Then one of my favorites Mushroom Croquet. The white sauce with it is a pine emulsion. It really tasted just like pine. A little bit of that flavor went a long way but it was incredible and I have never had anything like it before.

Then my hands down favorite was the Arugula Pasta with a goat cheese foam. Very unique flavor to the pasta.

We finished with ice cream. The flowers served with the ice cream were tasty too.
