Vegan Sliders
Growing up in Chattanooga like my husband Eric did you quickly develop a love or hate of Krystal’s sliders. They are small little greasy burgers that people eat by the sackful. That’s what inspired this post for vegan sliders. The secret ingredient here is the pickle. You can make with ketchup or mustard but you have to have the pickle.
To make Vegan Sliders you need:
- Small rolls or buns
- Small white onion diced and sauteed with a pinch of sugar
- Mustard or Ketchup
- Dill pickle slices
- Seitan “burger” patties
This is the recipe we used for the seitan patties:
- 1 cup vital wheat gluten
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp chickpea flour
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tea sp minced onion
- 1 tea sp garlic powder
- 1/2 tea sp white pepper
- 1/2 tea sp crushed caraway seeds
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup liquid aminos
- 1 tea sp liquid smoke
Mix all of your ingredients together to form a dough. Then flatten and add to a foil lined baking dish. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. After its fully cooked allow it to cool slightly so it’s easier to handle. Then you can use a bread knife to cut into the desired size and shape.
Once you have made your seitan burger patties you can start to assemble your vegan sliders. Add a piece of seitan to the bun. Top it with sauteed onion and a pickle slice. Finish with ketchup and or mustard.
